Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a form of manual medicine that approaches the structures in the body as a whole. We recognise the important link between how the body's systems all work together for optimal health and well being.
We use a wide range of approaches to enhance function, from direct techniques such as massage, articulation (gentle rhythmic joint movements), stretching and high velocity manipulation to more gentle techniques such as balanced ligamentous tension and myofascial release. We can also help with exercise therapy and rehabilitation, education and lifestyle advice.
Each osteopath is unique, and will apply our skills and knowledge differently. We have a wide range of 'tools' to choose from so every treatment will be different and uniquely targeted to the patient.
We often work with other practitioners such as GPs, exercise physiologists, physiotherapists and nutritionists as needed by the individual patient. No 'one therapy' provides all the answers to complex pain.
Osteopaths in Australia have undergone a 5 year university masters degree, or a double degree in health science and applied science (osteopathy). They are regulated by the Australian Health practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Osteopathic Board of Australia.
Osteopaths treat more than bones.
